Ray Gleason "Violent Season" By Ray Gleason

Ray Gleason wrote a book, "Violent Season", about his experiences as a rifleman in Vietnam. I think it deserves to be read by anyone of that era and also those interested in what people experience in wars of any era.

Ray also wrote "A Grunt Speaks: A 'Devil's Dictionary of Vietnam Infantry Tales & Terms". He prefaces the book with a very interesting discussion of his experiences upon coming home after the war.

A Word from the Author, Ray Gleason, on Memorial Day, 2021.

With the exception of a mother to her child, there is perhaps no closer bond than that which exists between soldiers who face together the horrors of war. After more than fifty years, I still feel the pain, still see the faces, of comrades who were left on the battle fields of Vietnam.

I wrote The Violent Season for three reasons. First, that you, the readers, could in some manner share the tragedy of their loss. Second, to set the record straight about the strength, love and sacrifice of the soldiers who fought there. And last, to honor the memory of lost comrades, still maligned by popular misconception.

As for the struggle of us who came back from that war, that's a work in progress.
